National Parents’ Council Post Primary and the NCCA New Junior Cycle Parent Information Evenings 2013
The National Parents’ Council Post Primary in conjunction with the NCCA, will host Information evenings nationwide for parents on the upcoming changes to the Junior Cycle. These evenings are open to all parents, guardians and parent association members to attend. All events are free to attend and light refreshments will be available on arrival. If you would like to join us, please email information@npcpp.ie to register.
Also on the night, NPCpp will give a brief outline about their work since 2003 (10 year plan) and future strategies. Meetings will begin at 7.30 with refreshments from 7pm and will be conclude by 9.15pm.
March 12th 2013
Whites Hotel, Abbey Street, Wexford, Co. Wexford
Note that new Junior Cycle Round 1 applies to incoming 1st Years September 2014 for English only.
Credit Union Savings Scheme
During their school life students attend many school events which though they are optional cost money and form important memories which they look back on with fondness e.g Transition year trips, language trips, Graduation Balls, etc. Also school itself can be very expensive with books especially for 5th year, exam fees, CAO fees, uniform and equipment all putting a strain on the family budget.
With this in mind the Parents Council with the approval of the Board of Management and The Principal has asked the Wexford Credit Union to set up a savings scheme where students can open their own account to lodge money in school.
Students under 16 will require their parents approval for this. Students with existing accounts may use them.
We feel that incremental saving for future events is a good habit to cultivate in us all and may make students more aware of the cost of these events and the effort required to budget for them.
Another benefit of having a Credit Union Savings Account is that students will have established a saving record in their own name which will hopefully be useful when they leave school.
We hope to commence after mid-term break.
Parenting Course
The Parenting course “Keeping Peace with Teens” for 2nd Year parents is being run in conjunction with Wexford Local Development. David Rafter, Behavioural Therapist is guiding the group through the ups and downs of parenting teenagers and giving advice and tips for parents.
Parents attending the course are recommending it to others.
Easter Draw
Our annual Easter draw is almost upon us and tickets will issue to families in early March with the draw being held on the 20th March at the Parents Council Meeting. As usual the Students Council will be asked to suggest prizes and there will be prizes for the 3 top sellers.
Funds raised will be spent on subsidizing the Study Skills Courses which students attend each year.
